'scan of destination location failed' error - how to resolve

I've just had RAM replaced in my computer; now bvckup2 backups fail with this error: 'scan of destination location failed'
Is there guidance on how to resolve this issue?
I've tried windows folders error check option for the backup drive: which tells me there are no errors on the backup drive.
The bvckup2 log tells me that the error is: 'cyclic redundancy check failed'
But does not offer sensible guidance to resolve the issue.
Any guidance would be great.
Thanks
Peter

Offering guidance on error resolution falls quite a bit outside of the competence of the program. There are literally thousands of possible failure codes and an equally large number of possible causes.

I can tell you a bit about this particular failure - "Cyclic redundancy check failed" - because I happened to look into it on another project.

It is supposed to come from the drive firmware and indicate that there's a bad physical block that cannot be salvaged or recovered using disk's standard ECC mechanism [1]. It's basically an indication of a (possibly critical) hardware issue that the drive failed to resolve on its own.

You may want to check your drive SMART status and run SMART self-tests. If you don't know what it is or how to use it, [2] will be a good starting point.
